Overview

We’re looking for our next Yardsticker…

You’re a leader who wants to shape a unique organizational culture that prioritizes its people.

You’re an innovator – always looking for the next organizational problem to solve, and willing to learn whatever you need to to do it.

A strong communicator and influencer, you can engage with diverse personalities.

The Yardstick Group of Companies is adding a new member to their People Operations (POps) team! As a corporate service, POps has the unique opportunity to work with all Yardstick’s business units (incl. Danatec, Banister Research, etc.) in shaping a strong organizational culture through programs, systems, and policy.

In a typical day you might coach management on maximizing their staff, create a process to facilitate smooth onboarding, or design and deliver a training session on a topic related to human resources (or… work with the Social Committee to plan a foosball tournament, Cinco de Mayo piñata, or mini-golf course – the work here is VERY diverse). POps also ensures everyone has money in the bank through operational activities like payroll, benefits, and RRSP.

This position is a full-time, mid-level role based out of our Edmonton office (8:30-5:00).

How to apply?

Either apply through the link, or send your resume directly to the Hiring Manager, Christina Seal, at [email protected] with some explanation of why you are the right person to shape our culture.

What would you be doing?

  • Managing day-to-day operations like payroll, benefits enrollment, and RRSP sign-up.
  • Supporting managers across the employee life cycle: facilitating recruiting, on/offboarding, performance management, and advising on compensation.
  • Shaping a strong organizational culture through programs like Yardsticker of the Month, Social Committee, monthly events, change management post-merger/acquisition, and more.
  • Build the talent ‘brand’ of Yardstick, through creative means such as community involvement, presentations at post-secondary institutions, etc.
  • Driving people analytics, by building out these KPIs and identifying recurring patterns in turnover, engagement, etc.

What qualities are we looking for?

  • Take ownership of every opportunity and run with it.
  • Are independent, in both your learning and in your approach to solving problems.
  • Are assertive – you deliver honest, respectful feedback, and you’re excited to learn and grow from the same.
  • Want others to be successful.
  • Are highly creative.
  • Understand plans and circumstances can change quickly – and adapt when they do!
  • Are proactive and ask lots of questions.
  • Strive for excellence.
  • Lead by example and challenge others to do the same.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information.
  • Enjoy presenting and training groups of individuals.
  • Have some kind of post-secondary education (preferably in Psychology or a related field).
  • Are excited at the thought of traveling to some of our other offices (on occasion).

Why join Yardstick?

  • A strong culture (one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, as per Waterstone).
  • 100% employer-paid medical and dental benefits.
  • 17+ days of paid time off.
  • All the caffeine you can handle.
  • The opportunity to create meaningful change across multiple companies/brands.
  • A fun environment that will encourage and foster your terrible dad humour.
