Yardstick Assessment Strategies (YAS) is looking for a productive and motivated leader to join our team as a Product Development Manager. Reporting to the VP of Product, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help define the strategy, roadmap, and operating plans for YAS’s software products, while providing leadership and support to the Measure exam delivery platform and software development teams in Edmonton and Toronto.

We have a big, hairy, audacious goal to help a billion learners by 2025, and this person will have a direct impact on them. If you’re that person, we shouldn’t have to tell you what to do next.

What would you be doing?

  • Accountable for the development, maintenance, and support of software products sold by Yardstick Assessment Strategies
  • Leads a product development team comprised of software developers and quality assurance specialists
  • Establishes goals and objectives for the product development team
  • Develops and manages release plans to meet customer commitments and roadmap targets
  • Ensures that team members follow best practices for software development and testing
  • Ensures that software releases address market requirements and meet established standards of quality
  • Coaches team members to higher levels of performance
  • Designs, develops and tests software releases as required
  • Contributes to the development of product strategy, product roadmap, and operating plans

What qualities are we looking for?

  • 5-10 years of experience developing web applications in a fast-paced software development environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or systems engineering, or related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with agile software development methodologies
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with quality management and software testing methodologies
  • Experience with coaching, leading, or mentoring a dedicated development team
  • Knowledge of the product lifecycle – from ideation to launch.
  • Good working knowledge of Ruby-on-Rails is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with and the following technologies is an asset – PostgsreSQL and SQL, CoffeeScript / HTML / CSS / angular.js / HAML, Redis, Docker / Deis Workflow / Kubernetes, Strongly-typed programming languages (Java, C#, Go, etc.
