Yardstick Training is looking for an ambitious, engaging relationship builder to join our Calgary office and safety sector as our General Manager, Safety. The successful candidate is an innovative leader who will drive the business growth and development of our occupational regulated safety training products (digital and paper) and services (consulting) sector. Leveraging their existing and extensive industry knowledge and connections, this individual will set the strategic direction for this sector and lead a team of senior leaders and front line in continuing to be the go-to regulated training company across the industry. An innovator and an entrepreneur at their core, they will ideate and envision the future of the regulated safety industry. What would you be doing?

Regulated Safety Training Product/Service Lines

  • Make product build, new market, and pricing decisions.
  • Monitor safety trends, perspectives, and regulatory landscape across multiple jurisdictions to determine market potential for new products and react quickly to market forces.
  • Leverage Yardstick technology platforms and innovations to create lasting change in how safety training is consumed/regulated.
  • Sales leadership, including developing market strategy to sell into the safety market by leveraging an understanding of buyers and buying decisions.
  • Predicting/forecasting future changes and how they may affect current products/services.
  • Familiarity with WHMIS, TDG, Fall Protection, etc.

Grow the Business

  • Participate in regulatory/association boards and activities to broaden and build industry network.
  • Develop the Yardstick Training Safety brand as the premier provider of trusted safety training.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams of subject matter experts in product (online, classroom, and paper) and service (consulting, auditing) success.

What qualities are we looking for?
  • A credible industry leader with in-depth knowledge of Canadian OH&S legislation (familiarity of specific provincial or federal safety legislation an asset)
  • Understanding of US/European market factors and influence on Canadian safety market.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Passionate about leaving their legacy on safety.
  • Ability to make decisions in the absence of complete information (tolerance of ambiguity / risk).
  • Broad network of industry and association professionals, and the desire/ability to continually build and expand this network.
  • Owner mindset.
  • Innovative, with strong understanding of the impact of technology/tools on the safety industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working with both safety products (online, paper, and classroom training) and services (consulting and auditing).
  • Strong belief in the potential of online training and credential management software.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the demonstrated ability to build out a profitable safety consulting portfolio.
  • Strong believe in the importance of safety and the importance of regulatory-/compliance-based training (NOT awareness-based training).
  • CRSP or other safety designation an asset.
