Blended online First Aid and CPR certification course approved by Alberta OHS.

Yardstick Training has partnered with St. John Ambulance – Alberta Council to develop and release a blended online certification program for Standard First Aid with CPR. Scheduled to launch on February 1, 2019, this program reduces barriers such as travel costs and time to earning a First Aid certification in Alberta.

The Yardstick and St. John Ambulance team released an awareness level series of First Aid and CPR courses in February of last year. Closely based on the in-class curriculum, these online courses were priced affordably and offered on Yardstick’s easy-to-navigate online learning platform, providing all Albertans the opportunity to learn how to save a life from the comfort of their homes. Megan Doyle, AVP, eLearning Innovation has worked closely with the subject matter experts at St. John Ambulance for almost two years to bring this lifesaving training to life. Her team has ensured that courses are immersive and competency-based, infused with “best practices in eLearning technology and instructional design – such as illustrations, videos, simulations, and built-in assessments – so that learners are confident in their skills and ready to draw on them in an emergency situation.”

Now this training is the foundation of a certification track program, approved by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety for workplace First Aid training. Students can complete the online course at their own pace, then register for a one-day in-class assessment to validate their skills, delivered at any one of St. John Ambulance’s seven Training & Community Service centres across Alberta. The blended certification track will save learners at least a full day of class time.

According to Trevor Gartner, President of Yardstick Training, “protecting the public is Yardstick’s top priority when developing training. We use our in-house training platform RapidLMS and other technology to ensure that online learning is secure, trusted, and defensible. We are honoured to bring this blended certification pathway to Alberta workplaces, and remain committed to using our technology and expertise to train a smarter, safer, and more successful workforce.”
